RASS Estimate provides advanced functionality to integrate project’s effort and schedule estimates with initial project planning suitable for conceptualization stage when MS Project Plans are not developed. This functionality provides and excellent way to prepare resource estimates at role level and generate MS Projects straight from the estimates at the click on a button. The following are the key features of this functionality.
  • Allows you to creating WBS Templates that directly use estimates of effort and schedule calculated by configured estimation models.  You can buid a library of these templates to speed up Resource and Scedule Planning.
  • Resource and Schedule estimates are generated by prorating estimated effort through the WBS structure to the task level as defined in the WBS template.
  • Allows assigning task duration as % of SDLC phase duration while creating WBS Templates
  • Controls task’s start and finish dates through MS Project like predecessors dependency notations and lead / lag times. These are transferred to MS Project schddule as such.
  • Allocates effort to resources at role level as a % of task's effort. Role level resources are like generic resources.
  • Generates MS Project schedule at theclick of a button
  • Gives the following reports. Reports details are given in document on “Reports”.
    • Effort allocation, head count and allocation % estimates at role level for all WBS tasks.
    • Monthly effort allocation, head count and allocation % distribution to role level resources for one or more or all disciplines taken together.
    • Total monthly effort allocation, head count and allocation % distribution for disciplines.
    • Total effort allocation, head count and allocation % distribution for Discipline x Roles.

The figure on the left shows the user view of Resource and Schedule Estimation process. It has two distinct parts.

  1. Develop WBS Templates and build a library of these templates
  2. Extract a WBS template and perform Resource and Schedule Estimation process

This model requires efforts and schedule estimates produced from the configured estimation models. These estimates are linked at SDLC phase and discipline level. However, it is possible to link the estimates as per your own scheme.

The generated MS Project Schedule will be as clean as the WBS template.

Resource Estimates reports can be used for initiating resource management activities.

For best results this model may require some customization to take care of your specific requirements.

The following is a sample of the screen shot of a typical implementation by RASS Estimate tool.
