PMO Dashboard and Management Reporting
 
PMO Dashboard and Management reporting can be an effective tool in the decision making at PMO level. Many orgnizations are using enterprise level tools. A lots of information resides in these tools but there is hardly any direct use for dashboard and management reporting. Most of the PMO setup will have a seperate group for collecting, compiling, analysing and reporting functions. Programme metrics are also managed by this group.  PMO Dashboard and Management reporting solutions focuses requirements of these groups. As the requirements are so diverse that any software tool with hard coded logic and formats will not succeed as it will require continuous cost for changes and enhancements. So what alternative RASS Tools offer?
 
Looking at the way PMO reporting functions, MS Excel is the central part of it. Information is collected from EPM solution tools as well as manually generated sources such as MS Excel files, MS Word files, Text files and Emails. It is a tough and manual labour intensive task. Majority of this information whether from EPM tools or manual sources comes in MS Excel files. 
 
With this situation in background, RASS Tools has contructed the solution that includes -
 
  • A generic solution for capturing the information in MS Excels and storing this information into SQL server database. 
  • The SQL Server database stores and cummulates the information.
  • A custom built MS Excel is created to generate PMO Metrics, Graphs and Reports
  • MS Excel is periodically  refreshed with the Data extracted from SQL Server
  • The graphs and reports gererated in MS Excel are stored as pictures and MS Excel files into the SQL Server
  • PMO Dashboard is constructed by combining the graphs and reports
  • Accessibility to graphs and reports are restricted through windows user logins
  • There is a provision to generate PowerPoint presentations automatically from these graphs
  • Selected reports are published for Public viewing.

The solution is constructed by using MS Excel, MS Access ADP and MS SQL Server. It can be implemenetd on MS SQL server Express 2005 so that you do not need to pay licencing fee. If you already have SQL Server licenses, you can use them. As has been mentioned the entire solution does not come as ready to use. It has to be customised for you.
