Estimating the cost of outsourced part of an Software project is critical for the accuracy of the overall estimates. RASS Estimate has included an Outsource Cost Estimation model as integral part of all estimation models implemented in the tool.
 
Beside providing the outsource estimates, this model is capable of analyzing if an outsource supplier is maintaining or increasing the price level. Trial implementation has shown that outsource suppliers can increase price by 50% to 150% without being noticed.
 
You can also use this model to provide inputs for outsourcing decisions as this model also produces estimates if the software work in done in-house. You can also compare relative pricing levels of suppliers.
 
This model can very effective if properly configured.
 
 
 

 

The graphics on the left shows the conceptual view of Outsource Cost Estimation model. This model takes estimates of effort produced by an estimation model as input and applies Outsource Profiles to effort inputs to calculate the Outsource estimates. Outsource Profiles contain a number of parameters that are used in the calculation of Outsource estimates. 

 

Outsource profiles are maintained in a master table called Outsource Profiles Master. You can create outsource profiles by supliers or by supplier and subsystems or by some other grouping.

 

All estimation models available in RASS Estimate include a read copy of this master table and it called Outsource Profiles Table.  The Outsource Profiles Table also contains Outsource Estimates. Outsource Estimates from all estimation models are summed up to produce estimation reports.
